Wire Transfers to Japan: Bank Code (Zengin) vs. SWIFT Code
When transferring funds to Japan, make sure you use the correct code based on your transfer method:
1. Domestic Transfers (Furikomi) 👉 Use the 4-digit Bank Code
If you are making a domestic transfer within Japan via ATM or online banking, you need the 4-digit Bank Code (金融機関コード) and the 3-digit Branch Code (支店コード). SWIFT codes are not used for domestic transfers.

2. International Wire Transfers (Overseas Remittance) 👉 Use the SWIFT Code
When sending money from overseas to Japan, you must provide the 8-11 character SWIFT Code. Note that some digital banks (like PayPay Bank or au Jibun Bank) may not accept direct international wire transfers. Confirm with the recipient before sending.
